Q: My husband just did a health screening this morning at his work... I am assuming for his insurance. They said that his BP was at 141/102 and his Fasting Glucose was at 134. What do these mean. I know they said that he needs to be checked for both with a DR. I just want to know if it sounds like diabetes? And High BP? OK they told him that he is boarderline diabetic but I read that this is not an actual diagnosis. You either are or you are not. Is this true? I am really confused on the glucose levels because so many websites say so many different levels are normal. The website that I read this on said that normally if they say you are a boarderline diabetic then you probably are diabetic? No he fasted overnight did not eat anything since 9 pm last night and no breakfast... then tested at work at the screening
A: Here are the norms my doctor gave me: Non-Diabetic: Fasting - 70-100 After Meals (2 hours) - 110-125 Random (taken at any time) - under 180 Pre-dibetic: Fasting - 100-125 After Meals - 125-150 Random - under 200 Diabetic: Fasting - 126+ After Meals - 150+ Random - 200+ These also seem to be a happy medium between most of the things I have read. A fasting blood sugar of 134 is definitely within the diabetic ranges, and average blood pressure should be around 120/80. It seems he has slightly elevated blood pressure, and should definitely go see his doctor. He'll run some blood tests and is the only one really able to tell you for sure whether you should be concerned. Good luck to you!
