if you take a prescription medicine and it really isn't needed, will it have adverse effects?

Q: if you took a prescription medication such as paxil or other antidepressant over a period of time, and you really didn't need it, would it alter anything...all answers appreciated i do need this medicine, i was only curious as to what would happen if someone took it and didn't need it..i have been very depressed for quite sometime also very stressed ,have alot of heath issues, sorry i gave you the impression i was taking it and didn't need it. they have really helpd me alot. thanks for the answer

A: of course it will. meds are given for a reason. especially antidepressants. the chemicals released from the pills are to make up for chemicals that your body produces naturally. in cases where a dr. gives you these meds it is b/c your body is no producing them properly. so the pills are doing what your body is already doing. the question you should ask yourself is why are you taking pills you do not need.
