Q: I am interested in what folic acid does for adults both male and female. I do not want answers about taking for pregnancy ect. Just in general health measures. Can it cause weight gain? Should men take it? Does it help the body produce more waste? Does it help the body take more nutrients from food? ect................................ thanks

A: When i was in school for phlebotomy we often took our breaks with the RNs and one of them wanted to work maternity and delievery and when i was talking about my nails breaking all the time and my hair being thin she said i needed folic acid you have to understand its not like when your pregnant the folic acid TAKES away from you and GIVES to the baby and if ur not pregnant its not gonna take from u and make waste cuz there IS no baby what it does is it helps KEEP a woman healthy when she is pregnant so it GIVES you nutrients your body has automatically given to the baby.. understand? So if you take it when your not pregnant it will make u have very pretty nails, hair and skin and in some people apparently makes ur sex drive higher. i havent tried it yet tho. Im sure it would do the same in men due to the fact that you get small amounts in your daily diet like when you eat sun flower seeds, broccoli, greens etc.
