Q: I had a week full of major head pain in June, it was so bad it made me dizzy (and sometimes nauseous), I finally went to the hospital and had a CT Scan, blood work, everything came back fine and literally the next day, the headaches were gone. Since then I've had some on and off headaches but nothing bad. I was put on Clonzeapam for anxiety because my Psychiatrist thought they were tension headaches. So now I'm slowly getting myself off the medicine but the headaches have come back. They are focused at the top/back of my head, not in my neck or anything, but in the head, sometimes a sharp pain, most of the time just constant pain, not really a throb, just pain, makes me dizzy. I'm going to the Dr. next week to see whats going on. I'm nervous. My Uncle had a brain tumor which he died from years ago and I had a CT Scan done in June adn nothing was found. I'm just wondering if the pain, where it's located, could be tension or if it could be something else? Any ideas, help would be great.

A: I think it is time for comprehensive medical exam. You did a brain CT, and it came back negative, which is fine. Also basic blood work needs to be done. Including test for thyroid function and glucose level. MRI or CT of your neck also must be conducted in order to see abnormalities in that area. Very often patient is experiencing prolong chronic headaches because of it. They call it cervicogenic headaches.
