Why does being very hungry make you feel sick?

Q: I don't mean long term starvation, just for example when you've had a long day and haven't had time to eat. By the time I usually get food on a plate I feel sick to my stomach - which is a rather peculiar feeling considering I want to eat.

A: I think its because your stomach keeps producing acid in readiness for food. But when no food comes it carries on anyway, and as it builds up it can cause pain, gurgling and make you a bit nauseous. Maybe even if you cant have a large meal for some reason, try some dry biscuits or crackers just so the acid has something to deall with? Good luck x
