Q: okay, so they arent popping entirely out of place (ive had that happen, and i know how painful it can be) but my hip joints especially kind of move out of place and its almost like a cramp, but its in the joints. and i have to get out of my stretch and straighten my legs back... i remember this used to happen a lot when i was little and in ballet, but it hasnt happened for a while and now its happening so much its taking me forever to stretch.. do you think im double jointed? how can i stop this? lol

A: Are you still dancing currently? Physical activity can stress your joints, especially balletic movement. If you are involved in an activity that is being hindered by your joint problems, try visiting a physical therapist. They can offer you some tips as to how to heal any damage and prevent future injury. However, if you're not participating in any activity that is going to aggravate your problem, try altering your movement for a few days and see what happens. You mentioned straightening out your legs when your joints pop--try manipulating your movement in other ways so that you are avoiding that action that brings you discomfort. Also, being double jointed has to do with having hyperextended joints, not joints that pop in and out of place. Those are displaced joints. You would know if you were double jointed--hyperextended joints go past where a 'normal' person's do, so if you were to hold up your arm or leg (elbow and knee joints) next to a friend's and find that it looked almost 'bent out of shape', you'd see that you were double jointed.
