Questions about the Mirena IUD?

Q: I had the mirena IUD inserted on Moday, and 2 days later, I am STILL cramping. Is this normal? I am 19, never had a child before, and I am now thinking that the IUD was a mistake. I just don't feel right, and I checked it to see if the strings were in place, and they were, so I don't know what's wrong. I have heard so many horror stories about how women werent able to have children after the IUD, so I am thinking about having it removed. Any experience stories or help??? Thanks.

A: You may have a problem, even assuming that the coil is in place and was fitted properly. In some women the uterus just spasms, treating the coil as a foreign body, which of course it is, and just continues to try and expel it. if the cramps continue you may have little choice but to have it removed. I am afraid both N.S. and Rorybell are wrong, Mirena, unlike conventional coils, was specifically designed to be used by women who had not had a vaginal delivery with nearly 70% of the test subjects, in it's initial trials, being nulliparous.
